<title>Ep. 35: PETA Deployed: Saving Animals, Fighting Florence</title>
<description>Jes Cochran was in North Carolina before, during and after Hurricane Florence dumped its historic rainfall. Emil Guillermo talks with Cochran about what the PETA team saw, and how the animals fared.&amp;amp;nbsp; Cochran said as many as 200 rescues occurred in the town of Lumberton, where the PETA team focused its efforts. But farm animals weren't so lucky with as many as 5,500 pigs and 3.4 million chickens and turkeys killed by the storm, according to reports.&amp;amp;nbsp; PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said the animals should have been evacuated prior to the storm to give the animals a &amp;quot;fighting chance to survive.&amp;quot;&amp;amp;nbsp; &amp;quot;Be merciful and open the barn doors,&amp;quot; Newkirk appealed in an open letter to meat industry leaders.&amp;amp;nbsp; See the letter here.
