12-2-18 A Thrill of Hope

Every year as soon as Thanksgiving is over and we've barely finished our leftovers, it seems the whole world switches gears. We put up Christmas trees, lights, and begin listening to Christmas music. Our everyday messy living rooms are transformed into magical spaces, and we proclaim: this is the most wonderful time of the year. When we read the Christmas story against this backdrop, we can quickly forget that the first Christmas was anything but a silent night. Set against a world in chaos and overrun with brokenness, God first came. This Sunday we look at a man named Luke's account of Jesus and John the Baptist birth announcements and what it says about the stubborn hope of God alive in the world. Advent is a chance to experience a thrill of hope once again.
