  <title>Harriet Tubman</title>
<description>Harriet Tubman&amp;amp;nbsp;(born&amp;amp;nbsp;Araminta Ross,&amp;amp;nbsp;c. March 1822[1]&amp;amp;nbsp;–&amp;amp;nbsp;March 10, 1913) was an American&amp;amp;nbsp;abolitionist&amp;amp;nbsp;and political activist. Born into&amp;amp;nbsp;slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made some 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people, including family and friends,[2]&amp;amp;nbsp;using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the&amp;amp;nbsp;Underground Railroad. During the&amp;amp;nbsp;American Civil War, she served as an armed&amp;amp;nbsp;scout&amp;amp;nbsp;and&amp;amp;nbsp;spy&amp;amp;nbsp;for the&amp;amp;nbsp;Union Army. In her later years, Tubman was an activist in the movement for&amp;amp;nbsp;women's suffrage.
