She was part of the team that won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the Virginia Tech massacre. She is also a senior fellow at the New America Foundation. She lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her husband, Tom Bowman, a reporter for National Public Radio, and their two children.
