Murray, president of Murray Analytics and a senior consultant in the finance practice at Charles River Associates, to discuss the credit markets and what it takes for investors to succeed in them. Michael traces Silver Point’s growth from $120 million at its 2002 launch to roughly $50 billion across special situations, private credit and CLOs, and explains why more than half the firm’s capital now sits in performing debt. They also cover AI’s disruptive force in credit, what payment-in-kind structures do to a lender when a borrower is in secular decline, and where the dislocation is creating opportunity. Michael, who teaches at Columbia Business School and Fordham University, wrote The Credit Investor’s Handbook: Leveraged Loans, High Yield Bonds, and Distressed Debt because no book on the market taught the job the way he wanted to teach it. He pulls case studies from it throughout, including one Irish conglomerate whose restructuring turned violent. To learn more about turnaround management, news, and experts, visit turnaround.org.
