I was in Cell Block 16, locked in an 8x10 concrete cell 23 hours a day. My cellmate was a young dude who looked like a drugged-out Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High — detoxing and fighting demons, physically and mentally. I'd stare into the polished piece of metal bolted to my cell wall, the closest thing to a mirror, and look at the shell of a person I'd become. And I made a promise: I was going to change my life in every way possible. “I'm sharing this because somewhere out there is a kid or someone out there who thinks their life is already decided. - Maybe their parents don't give a sh*t about them. - Maybe they're surrounded by the wrong people. - Maybe they've made terrible decisions. - Maybe they feel like they're too far gone. - They're not. - A bad hand doesn't mean you have to play the rest of your life with it. - Your past can explain where you came from — it doesn't get to decide where you're going. - Never give up on yourself. - I didn't." You are welcome to contact Nathan Elser on facebook.
You Just Have To Laugh
https://anchor.fm/david-naster
