Sometimes it looks like needing to be right. Needing to be recognized. Struggling to receive correction. Feeling diminished when someone else is celebrated. Or becoming deeply offended when we aren’t treated the way we believe we should be. Pride can quietly damage our relationships without us ever recognizing it for what it is. In this episode of Monday Mindset Reset, Dr. Denise Pass continues the September series, Getting to the Roots of Offense, by examining the subtle root of pride—and the freedom Christlike humility brings to our relationships. Philippians 2 doesn’t simply tell us to stop being prideful. It gives us an entirely different mindset: the mind of Christ. In this episode, you’ll discover: Why pride can hide underneath hurt and offense How pride turns disagreement into disrespect and correction into rejection Why our need to be right, recognized, or vindicated can strain relationships What Philippians 2 teaches us about the mindset of Christ Why biblical humility is not thinking poorly of yourself How humility allows us to receive correction without being crushed Why we don’t have to defend our reputation or win every disagreement How the Gospel frees us from self-exaltation and the need for others’ approval Pride Says…Humility Says… Pride says: “I deserve better.” Humility says: “Everything I have is grace.” Pride says: “I need them to recognize my value.” Humility says: “My identity is already secure in Christ.” Pride says: “I have to defend myself.” Humility says: “I can trust God with my reputation.” Pride says: “I would never do what they did.” Grace says: “Apart from Christ, I need mercy too.” Pride says: “I need to win.” The mind of Christ says: “I can humble myself and entrust the outcome to God.” Pride makes every wound feel like a throne was threatened. But humility reminds us that we were never meant to occupy the throne in the first place.
