Bitterness rarely announces itself. Instead, it can sound like: \u201cThey owe me.\u201d \u201cThey don\u2019t deserve forgiveness.\u201d \u201cIf I let this go, they\u2019ll get away with it.\u201d But those thoughts can become fertile soil where bitterness grows. In this episode, you\u2019ll discover: Why being hurt is not the same thing as being bitter What Scripture means by a \u201croot of bitterness\u201d How the thoughts we rehearse can give bitterness room to grow Why forgiveness acknowledges a real debt rather than pretending the wrong never happened The difference between forgiveness, reconciliation, trust, boundaries, justice, and vengeance How Cain illustrates the danger of allowing an internal response to take root Why the Gospel\u2014not denial\u2014is the answer to bitterness How to replace bitter thinking with the grace you have received in Christ Bitterness Says...Grace Says... Bitterness says: \u201cThey owe me.\u201d Grace says: \u201cRemember what you have been forgiven.\u201d Bitterness says: \u201cIf I let this go, they get away with it.\u201d Grace says: \u201cGod sees, God knows, and God judges justly.\u201d Bitterness says: \u201cKeep remembering what they did.\u201d Grace says: \u201cRemember what Christ has done.\u201d Forgiveness does not mean the offense didn\u2019t matter. It doesn\u2019t eliminate appropriate boundaries, automatically restore trust, or mean justice should not be pursued. A soft heart does not require weak boundaries. The Gospel gives us another way. We can acknowledge the wrong while releasing our personal demand for vengeance and entrusting ourselves to the One who judges justly. This Week\u2019s Mindset Reset Do a little root inspection: What offense am I still rehearsing? What debt am I still trying to collect? What am I believing because of what happened? Where does God\u2019s grace need to be applied? Then take one bitter thought and reframe it with the truth of the Gospel. You may not be able to change what happened, but through Christ, you don\u2019t have to let someone else\u2019s sin determine what grows in you.
