This verse is a challenge and a call to a lifestyle. Psalm 89 is attributed to Ethan the Ezrahite, one of the wise men mentioned in the Old Testament (1 Kings 4:31). While many psalms are credited to David, this particular psalm names Ethan as the author. Psalm 89 stands out because it wrestles with a deep tension: it celebrates God’s promises in the covenant with King David, then shifts into a heartfelt lament over apparent divine silence or the seeming failure of those promises. Even amid questioning, lament, and uncertainty, the psalmist calls us back to praise and trust in God’s presence. The blessing comes not when life is perfect, but when we intentionally choose to walk in His light, God's light, despite the storm. Learning to Acclaim God “Learned to acclaim” implies growth, discipline, and intention. It’s not an accidental shout of joy; it’s a deliberate daily practice to recognize God’s worth. We don’t just start cheering for God, expecting things to magically turn out better. Instead, we train ourselves to see His hand in the mundane and the monumental. This acclaim grows from knowing who God is—the unchanging, powerful, loving Lord who deserves our full attention. Walking in the Light of His Presence To “walk in the light of your presence” means more than a casual awareness. It means orienting our lives toward God’s ever-present reality. This light isn’t just illumination; it’s life-giving clarity, protection, and guidance. Walking in this light means choosing, moment by moment, to live in alignment with God’s presence rather than in the shadows of distraction, doubt, or worldly noise. The K.I.S.S. ~ Walk in the light of Your presence, Lord! Now, if we aren't careful, the hardest part is that we often lose sight of God’s presence. Why? Because the world competes for our attention constantly—social media updates, news alerts, demands from people around us. We get consumed by the presence of others and the noise they make. No amount of scrolling, comparing, or reacting can fill the space that only God’s presence can satisfy. No one deserves our focus more than Jesus Christ, risen and active in our lives. He is the light we are called to walk in—the unshakable source of peace amid chaos. So, where do you find God in your every day? Start Intentional Acclaim: Begin your day by intentionally praising God. Make a joyful noise! It could be a short prayer, a worship song, or even a moment of gratitude. This sets your heart to recognize and rejoice in God’s presence. Anchor Your Attention: Notice when your mind drifts to distractions. Gently bring it back to God—whether that’s through scripture, a quick prayer, or a reminder phrase like, “Lord, I want to walk in Your presence.” Practice Presence Before Productivity: Our culture pushes constant doing, but walking in God’s light means prioritizing being with Him before doing for Him. Prayer as a Compass: Make the prayer, “Lord, may I walk in the light of Your presence,” your daily compass to re-center yourself. The Bottom Line Psalm 89:15 is a call to live a disciplined, focused life where God is your center, your light, and your joy—no matter what crowds, screens, or scenes try to pull you away. Blessed isn’t a feeling here; it’s the state of those who have learned to acclaim God and live fully in His light. If your heart feels scattered or your prayer life dry, remember this verse. May your prayer always be, “Lord, may I walk in the light of Your presence.” When you do, you walk blessed—fully alive in the grace and power of your risen Lord and Savior. "Be present.
