Join us!\r\nAlisa shares the following about her experience with dairy:\r\n\r\nAlisa was allergic to milk as an infant, but never knew it until adulthood.\r\nShe spent her childhood and early adulthood being sick to the point of having an ER visit about once a week&amp;mdash;all because of the allergy to milk protein!\r\nAlisa HAD to make the change to dairy-free in a time when not a lot of information was available\r\nShe started a website about ten years ago to share helpful information with others.\r\nCommon symptoms of milk allergy include digestive issues, acne, restless leg syndrome, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and narcolepsy.\r\nThe proteins in different milks affect people differently. About 40% of people allergic to cow&amp;rsquo;s milk can tolerate goat&amp;rsquo;s milk!\r\nGreat substitutes for milk include almond, cashew, and coconut milk. Coconut milk works great for cooking and baking.\r\nAlisa shares her technique for making cashew cream&amp;mdash;it&amp;rsquo;s easy!\r\nOne of Alisa&amp;rsquo;s favorite go-to meals is Peanut Noodles. Ingredients include peanut butter, soy sauce, coconut milk, crushed red pepper, ginger, broccoli, and rice noodles. Alisa shares her favorite subs for yogurt, whipped cream, ice cream, and creamers.\r\nSometimes &amp;ldquo;accidental&amp;rdquo; dairy exposure happens, especially in restaurants. Alisa advises the following about dining out:\r\n\r\nCall ahead or email to inquire about dairy-free options.\r\nBe clear about the level of concern and the reasons.\r\nWhen traveling, seek out chains that you can trust.\r\nBe wary of buttered foods like meats, buns, steamed veggies, and pasta.\r\nAlisa&amp;rsquo;s website has a list of restaurants with dairy-free options!\r\n\r\nWhen living dairy-free, you can get adequate calcium without milk.
