The Houthis control the Red Sea and have attacked ships contracted by Israeli companies, including Maersk ships. Activists say their campaign is ongoing because although Maersk no longer ships commercial cargo, it still ships military equipment for Israel. In other news, the government of Panama has declared a state of emergency, suspending constitutional protections in the Bocas del Toro province after two months of worker-led protests and road blockades in response to controversial social security reform. The province is a major banana-producing region where workers have spoken out against exploitative conditions by the Chiquita company. The corporation, formerly known as United Fruit Company, fired thousands of striking workers last month.
