The sensation is so elusive that, while they admit it is injurious, they cannot after a time differentiate the true from the false. To them, their alcoholic life seems the only normal one. They are restless, irritable and discontented, unless they can again experience the sense of ease and comfort which comes at once by taking a few drinks-drinks which they see others taking with impunity. After they have succumbed to the desire again, as so many do, and the phenomenon of craving develops, they pass through the well-known stages of a spree, emerging remorseful, with a firm resolution not to drink again. This is repeated over and over, and unless this person can experience an entire psychic change there is very little hope of his recovery. \r\nBeing Sober During the Holidays\r\nLet’s break this down\r\nWhat was your reaction the first time you read this?\r\nComment on:\r\neveryone likes the effect of alcohol\r\ncannot differentiate true from false\r\nalcoholic life seems normal\r\nrestless, irritable and discontented\r\nexperience ease and comfort\r\nseeing others enjoying drink\r\ncraving\r\nHow do you recognize you are restless, irritable, and discontented?\r\nHow do you regain ease and comfort?\r\nsteps?\r\nprayers?\r\nslogans?\r\nservice?\r\nmeetings?\r\nsponsor?\r\nWE HAVE CALLS!\r\nDo you want to take them?\r\nhttps:\/\/www.google.com\/voice\/fm\/00557165274674955804\/AHwOX_A2Ak4iVTBEo4fXyiLuRxuVH7cDcm4WvWYxaNEk5T5GEES6NA9paGP6qHLsy_9lJWKHqe3JjL0UiJmCA5c4hVFFfqAEWI7xHlajWsAAi_TfHeZ7kf39LVkxUsav9i-ZS20wpF1j4F7MaCIH-s-t6XGubJoZbA\r\npage 47 of the big book\r\nThat was great news to us, for we had assumed we could not make use of spiritual principles unless we accepted many things on faith which seemed difficult to believe. When people presented us with spiritual approaches, how frequently did we all say, "I wish I had what that man has. I'm sure it would work if I could only believe as he believes. But I cannot accept as surely true the many articles of faith which are so plain to him." So it was comforting to learn that we could commence at a simpler level.\r\nComment on\r\nwhat does faith mean to you?\r\nwhat are spiritual principles to you?\r\nhow has other’s faith affected your faith life?\r\nHow does simplicity in faith in particular and recovery on general give you comfort? \r\nIs this true for you? \r\nHow?\r\nPage 18 of the Big Book\r\nAn illness of this sort - and we have come to believe it an illness - involves those about us in a way no other human sickness can. If a person has cancer all are sorry for him and no one is angry or hurt. But not so with the alcoholic illness, for with it there goes annihilation of all the things worth while in life. It engulfs all whose lives touch the sufferer's. It brings misunderstanding, fierce resentment, financial insecurity, disgusted friends and employers, warped lives of blameless children, sad wives and parents - anyone can increase the list.\r\nWe hope this volume will inform and comfort those who are, or who may be affected. There are many.\r\nComment on:\r\nAlcoholism as illness\r\nhaving cancer vs. alcoholism. That is stigma\r\nTalk to the newcomer who is worried and anxious about many things. What would you say to give comfort to that person who is suffering?\r\nFinal Thoughts?","author_name":"Recovered Podcast","author_url":"http:\/\/recoveredcast.com","html":"<\/iframe>","thumbnail_url":"https:\/\/assets.libsyn.com\/secure\/content\/8072954"}
