The amazing woman who had provided the ultrasound on a few previous occasions placed the cold gel on my stomach and started rolling the ultrasound wand over my belly. I didn’t notice anything at first. Providing ultrasounds wasn’t my day job so nothing seemed out of the ordinary to me, plus it had been 10 years since I’d had ultrasounds on a “regular pregnancy basis” during my pregnancy with my son. So all seemed normal to me. Cindy, the ultrasound lady, asked a few questions - had I eaten that day? - when was the last time I felt him move? Then she said, “I’ll be right back.” She walked out and I heard her yell for the doctor, with what sounded like concern in her voice. It was then that everything registered. There was no sound on the ultrasound. My doctor walked in and I could tell by the look on her face, our son was no longer alive. 😔 Much of the next few days were a blur. We went to the hospital that night to begin the labor and delivery process. I won’t go into much detail but that was probably one of the hardest things I’ve walked through. My doctor, the staff at the hospital, the funeral home, my church family, my work family, and so many other people were amazing. I know people helped carry me through when the world looked like a fog. I share all this to say … When we walk through times like that, we get a glimpse of the things that truly matter…and let me tell you…most things that I had probably worried, grumbled, or complained about 24 hours prior didn’t matter at all. It’s like I got a brand new view on life and what I hold valuable. Friends, I would love for you to join me in this episode as I try to tackle the topic of what really matters in life.
