Bruce had a good friend named Walter Martindale join us this time. It turns out Walter is a master knife sharpener. We of course put him to work sharpening every knife in the place. He also brought along a few interesting ones to show us as well. One of them has quickly become my favorite for when I feel like sitting on the deck cutting the cheese. It's known as the "Original Woodman's Pal" from Lee Valley Tool Company. I'll put a link on the website. Walter went through the process of using an oil stone to re-grind an edge on a thoroughly trashed knife and then hone it to a razor edge. He also schooled us in the proper use of a sharpening steel for maintaining that edge. Now we also made a video of this and have posted it up on our YouTube channel. It comes in at 30 minutes but it's almost impossible to sharpen a knife in under 3 minutes. We'll try harder on our next know-how. Walter also brews his own mead from local honey and we did start off with that which was excellent. Of course we did get to our beer of the day.
