The idea came about as a result of Berney\u2019s visits to one of our father\u2019s (and uncle's) coffee houses in Miami \u2013 The Hootenanny \u2013 as the folk scene was coming to a crescendo at the advent of the British Invasion \u2013 and was intended as a vehicle for various folk artists at the time. Of note is the fact that the film was also the first-ever screen appearance by Joan Rivers.
