NEGATIVITY is alive and well in our message bombarded culture. If you allow it, negativity can become a cancer on your speaking ability (04:15); a barrier between you and your mission. There are 3 sources of NEGATIVITY we cover and remedy in today’s program. 1- Self-Talk can be a subtle deceiver that quickly compromises your effectiveness. The current trend of “positive thinking” and “you are great in and of yourself” is deceptive for every communicator. It leads to a false sense of self. The reality? You do have faults. You do have hangups. You are not perfect. In realizing this truth, you take yourself off the hook of the expectation of self-perfection. An honest and realistic image of 'you' encourages the True You when communicating. To fill in the faults and gaps, you need to acknowledge you have a Creator who gives you life and purpose. When you recognize this, you can then realize a plan for you to impact the world. Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Life is on to something. When you maintain this purposeful perspective, it frees you to lean in to your created self and draw your confidence from your Creator. Moses’ shrinking in his inadequacy is great example of God working through your imperfections (07:45). 2- Negativity from Others (10:59). Words matter. Hurtful words and critical expressions are permeating society. And they are flung at our personal confidence each and every day. Consider the source and move ahead in healthy confidence. (13:15 )Ed Sheeran said, “…the key to failure is trying to please everyone.” You will never please everyone with your ability. When you lean in to that fact, you move ahead in Creator-Confidence and put the criticism in it’s rightful place. (14:20) Trust your Creator to fill in the gaps of your weaknesses and imperfections. Be the “self” God made you to be. 3- (16:00) Negativity by Overwhelm. It’s perfect to not be perfect. Recognize that you have a special “calling” to be in that place. Own it. Embrace it. If perfection is a problem for you, learn to see it for what it is and rethink your motive. Offer what you have and offer it fully! Phil 4:8 “…think about these things”.
