Barry Koplen

In addition to prize-winning photography, Barry Koplen has long been writing poetry that is often published by friendly journals. His B. A. from Emory University was followed by an MFA from Queens University in Charlotte, NC. Recently, he completed the second half of a two-volume collection of poems and essays. The first, Whale of Grief, compliments Wail of Joy, the second; both are related to impressions of life as a Jew in a non-Jewish world. Soon these will be released in one book. Soon after, a collection of love poems, Briefly, Sarah Smiled, will also be published. Koplen's No Gold Stars, based on his memoir, tells of his integrating the Greenville, SC school system at Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr.'s alma mater, Sterling Jr.-Sr. High, and of the victories of his students there. Kissology (a mystery for children of all ages and their parents), Satin Doll (a collection of poems dedicated to the spirit of Mary Jo Kopechne), Escape (a novel about a teenager trying to survive her parents' divorce), Three Minute Stories To Warm Your Heart (more than 100 stories that will do just that), and The Hard Edges of Fragility (a collection of poems about relationships and their insecurities that mark us as human). Why Don't They Believe Me? Four of us saw the saucer! tells the true story of his close encounter with a flying saucer. His latest, Why the Last Capitol of the Confederacy Became a Capital Attraction, as well as the others, are available under his name at Amazon. Koplen has taught Creative Writing, Humanities, and English at Danville Community College. ===================== About Michael Levine Michael Levine has been widely regarded as one of the world’s premier branding and media expert for the last thirty years.
