The invisible weight we carry: how to hold the hard & the good (+ What I’m Loving Lately!)

What happens when something really hard is happening in the background of your life, but the rest of your life keeps moving? You still have meetings. Birthdays. Dinners. Deadlines. People asking, “What’s new?” And sometimes, the biggest thing happening in your life is the thing you can’t…or don’t want to talk about. In this solo episode, I’m getting personal about the invisible weight I’ve carried through my fertility journey: going from difficult news to a work meeting, waiting for life-changing phone calls while trying to focus on everything else, and the exhaustion that can come from trying to keep showing up as the version of yourself everyone expects. But this episode isn’t only about fertility. Maybe you’re grieving. Caring for someone you love. Going through heartbreak. Worried about your child. Navigating uncertainty. Or simply carrying something no one around you can see. We’re talking about what it means to hold two realities at once, and why the goal may not actually be “balance.” Maybe it’s integration: giving the hard thing space without letting it take over every room in your life. In this episode: Why motivation and discipline aren’t the same thing The invisible “second job” we carry when something is weighing on us The pressure to perform normalcy—especially at work Why your “best self” might only have 40% to give today Letting yourself experience joy without betraying what hurts The difference between processing difficult emotions and escaping them The practices that have helped me create space for both Why support, therapy, friendship and getting outside of yourself matter Rethinking “balance” when life simply isn’t 50/50 How to give the hard thing a room without giving it the whole house Plus, I’m sharing a little life update and a new What I’m Loving Lately with a few beauty, fashion, food and podcast favorites. You don’t have to resolve the hard thing before you’re allowed to experience joy. You can be grateful and grieving. Hopeful and scared. Happy and hurting. The hard thing can have a room. It just doesn’t have to have the whole house. If this episode made you think of someone who is carrying something quietly right now, send it to them. And if you enjoy the show, I’d be so grateful if you rated or reviewed it wherever you listen. EPISODE TIMESTAMPS 0:00 Updates! 6:00 What I’m Loving Lately 18:00 Connect with Hailey: Connect with me on Instagram ShopMy - What I’m Loving Lately Email: Hailey@hailey-miller.com
