Two recent events have highlighted the controversy and dangers of artificial intelligence. More than one thousand employees and executives from leading AI labs like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and Meta signed a petition urging the U.S. government to join an international effort to slow down the pace of advanced AI development. Some critics have suggested that the dramatic events might be a form of fake marketing hype intended to generate investor interest by showing how powerful their models are.
