4058 The Story of Your Family

When you reflect on your life, where does your family fit in the grand story? Is God at the center of your family's narrative by genuine choice, or is His presence more a matter of convenience? The story of your family is not a ledger of right or wrong actions, successes or mistakes. Instead, it’s about whose you are—rooted firmly in God's divine connection—and how that shapes the way you show up for each other and for the world around you. The Bible makes it clear that our truest belonging is found in God’s family. Romans 8:15 reminds us, “You did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’” No matter our earthly ties, we are first and foremost God’s children. This fact reshapes our understanding of family—not just by blood, but by shared faith and purpose. This divine belonging means that even when family gatherings are messy or relationships are strained, your presence in this story matters more than perfection. The story is about showing up—consistently, lovingly, vulnerably. It’s like Jesus before the raising of Lazarus in John 11—He didn’t perform His miracle from afar; He arrived, grieved with the family, and then acted, proving that presence before power is what sustains us. Showing Up for God, Family, and Self God’s design for family is not about rigid rules or flawless history but about faithful presence. In Deuteronomy 6:6-7, parents are urged: “These words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children.” But the teaching isn’t only about words; it’s about embodied love and daily commitment. Take the story of Hannah in 1 Samuel 1. She was a mother desperate for a child, and when God answered, her story became one of dedication and praise, but also of honest struggle. She brought Samuel back to the temple, surrendering him to God’s care. Her story tells us that mothering isn’t about control but about trust and faithful handing over. Your presence is the well of love and hope that nourishes your family’s story, even in uncertainty. The K.I.S.S. ~ The story of your family! The Power of Your Presence Martha and Mary show us two sides of family presence in Luke 10. Martha was busy with tasks, distracted by responsibilities, while Mary sat with Jesus, fully present to Him. Jesus said Mary had chosen “the better part.” This doesn’t lessen Martha’s service but elevates the power of presence. "Your story and your family’s story find life when hearts are together, not just physically, but intentionally." ~ Kristianne Wargo Remember, it's not about having the perfect answer or the flawless family history; it's about the love you bring simply by showing up. Your sacred presence creates the foundation others stand on. A Mother’s Day Tribute On this Mother’s Day, we honor the mothers who are raising the next generation every day—molding the story of family through love, patience, and presence. You are the wellspring of hope for your family. Let your love be steady, your presence unwavering, and your faith a beacon that leads your family through the challenges and joys ahead. In Psalm 127:3, children are called “a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” Your role is sacred. Your story, though imperfect, is powerful and needed. When you step back and view your family story through this lens, who you are and whose you are becomes the heartbeat of your living. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You only have to show up. Because in the story of your family, your presence makes all the difference. Happy Mother’s Day to every mom writing this beautiful, messy, meaningful story every day. "Be present. Be incredible.
