The War Between the Land and the Sea&amp;amp;nbsp;was filmed from August to December 2024. It consists of five episodes and premiered on BBC One on 7 December 2025, and is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2026. Dylan Holmes Williams Russell T Davies 21&amp;amp;nbsp;December&amp;amp;nbsp;2025 TBD     Production   Development  In July 2024,&amp;amp;nbsp;Deadline Hollywood&amp;amp;nbsp;reported a new&amp;amp;nbsp;Doctor Who&amp;amp;nbsp;spin-off titled&amp;amp;nbsp;The War Between the Land and the Sea&amp;amp;nbsp;was set to begin filming in September.[7]&amp;amp;nbsp;Russell T Davies&amp;amp;nbsp;confirmed later that month at&amp;amp;nbsp;San Diego Comic Con&amp;amp;nbsp;that production would begin in August.[8]&amp;amp;nbsp;Produced by&amp;amp;nbsp;Bad Wolf&amp;amp;nbsp;and&amp;amp;nbsp;BBC Studios, Davies is an&amp;amp;nbsp;executive producer&amp;amp;nbsp;along with&amp;amp;nbsp;Pete McTighe, Joel Collins,&amp;amp;nbsp;Julie Gardner, and&amp;amp;nbsp;Jane Tranter.[4][9]&amp;amp;nbsp;Edoardo Ferretti took on the role of&amp;amp;nbsp;television producer&amp;amp;nbsp;with&amp;amp;nbsp;pre-production&amp;amp;nbsp;underway by July 2024.[10]  Casting  Russell Tovey&amp;amp;nbsp;and&amp;amp;nbsp;Gugu Mbatha-Raw&amp;amp;nbsp;lead the series with&amp;amp;nbsp;Jemma Redgrave&amp;amp;nbsp;and Alexander Devrient reprising their roles from&amp;amp;nbsp;Doctor Who&amp;amp;nbsp;as&amp;amp;nbsp;Kate Lethbridge-Stewart&amp;amp;nbsp;and Colonel Ibrahim, respectively.[1][11]&amp;amp;nbsp;Tovey and Mbatha-Raw previously played Alonso Frame and&amp;amp;nbsp;Tish Jones&amp;amp;nbsp;in&amp;amp;nbsp;Doctor Who.[12]&amp;amp;nbsp;Ruth Madeley&amp;amp;nbsp;also returns from&amp;amp;nbsp;Doctor Who, playing Shirley Anne Bingham.&amp;amp;nbsp;Colin McFarlane&amp;amp;nbsp;reprises his role as General Austin Pierce, a character first introduced and last seen fifteen years prior in the&amp;amp;nbsp;third series&amp;amp;nbsp;of&amp;amp;nbsp;Torchwood, another&amp;amp;nbsp;Doctor Who&amp;amp;nbsp;spin-off.[13]&amp;amp;nbsp;Adrian Lukis,&amp;amp;nbsp;Patrick Baladi,&amp;amp;nbsp;Vincent Franklin, Francesca Corney and&amp;amp;nbsp;Mei Mac&amp;amp;nbsp;were announced as additional cast members in October 2024.[14]  Writing  The five-part series was written by Davies and&amp;amp;nbsp;Pete McTighe.[15]&amp;amp;nbsp;Davies is the current&amp;amp;nbsp;showrunner&amp;amp;nbsp;of&amp;amp;nbsp;Doctor Who&amp;amp;nbsp;while McTighe also previously wrote for the parent series.[16]&amp;amp;nbsp;The two split writing duties across the programme, with Davies writing the premiere and finale episodes, McTighe writing the second and third episodes, and the two co-writing episode four together.[5]&amp;amp;nbsp;The first read-through for all five episodes occurred on 19 August 2024.[10]&amp;amp;nbsp;The series sees the return of the&amp;amp;nbsp;Sea Devils.[1]  Filming  Some filming took place internationally, including on&amp;amp;nbsp;Mallorca.[17]&amp;amp;nbsp;All episodes were produced in one block, compared to the two to three blocks that would usually be used for five episodes.[5]&amp;amp;nbsp;Location shooting&amp;amp;nbsp;began on 29 August 2024 in&amp;amp;nbsp;Barry&amp;amp;nbsp;and&amp;amp;nbsp;Atlantic Wharf, both in&amp;amp;nbsp;south Wales. Filming continued into September in various locations across Wales, including at the Welsh Government Building, City Arms pub, Hodge House, and&amp;amp;nbsp;Merthyr Mawr. In October, the series was spotted filming at&amp;amp;nbsp;Cardiff City Hall&amp;amp;nbsp;and&amp;amp;nbsp;National Museum Cardiff. November filming occurred at&amp;amp;nbsp;Town Bridge&amp;amp;nbsp;in&amp;amp;nbsp;Newport, Wales.[17]&amp;amp;nbsp;Filming concluded on 10 December 2024.[18]  Music  On 30 May 2025, it was announced that&amp;amp;nbsp;Lorne Balfe&amp;amp;nbsp;had been hired as the show's composer.[19] A soundtrack album of&amp;amp;nbsp;Lorne Balfe's score was released digitally 5 December 2025. The first track from the album, &amp;quot;Barclay's Theme&amp;quot;, was released as a digital single 28 November 2025 and a cover of &amp;quot;'Heroes'&amp;quot; by&amp;amp;nbsp;Alison Goldfrapp&amp;amp;nbsp;and Balfe was released as a single 12 December 2025 by Goldfrapp's label A.G.
