The main character, Duster Raines, is an ambulance-chasing private investigator who is well on his way to hitting rock bottom when he finds himself dragged into a mystery that crosses multiple realities, and he glimpses a version of himself that is so much more than he is in this world. Josh drew upon his background as a screenwriter and filmmaker when writing this novel, and his intention was to take traditional tropes of the genres and bend them in the style of The Twilight Zone.
