Red Letters Day 10 Luke 6:1-16

The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields and his disciples began to eat some of the kernels from the grain God had commanded the Sabbath to be a time of rest and no work no labor The Pharisees asked them why they were doing something unlawful on the Sabbath Jesus answered them with Word about David and his companions eating the consecrated bread which was unlawful b/c it was only for the priest He then tells them The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath ( he wass affirming his deity he was the Lord who created the Sabbaath and had the authority to make exceptioon On another Sabbath, he was teaching in the synagogue and a man whose right hand was shriveled The Pharisees were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath Jesus knew what they were thinking Get Up and Stand in Front of Everyone Jesus tells the man with the shriveled hand to Get Up and stand in front of everyone So he gets up and stands there Jesus asked them two questions Which is lawful on the Sabbath: To do good or to do evil To save life or to destroy it? They were more concerned about the law than freedom for the man Stretch out your hand He looks at all of them and then at the man he stretch out your hand The man did He was completely restored They were furious and began to discuss what to do about Jesus Calling the Disciples This is the third portion of Scripture that we have read that reminds us to pray Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray He spent the night praying to God After spending time with God, he called his disciples and chose 12 designated disciples Disciples means learner or follower Apostles means sent one Simon peter Andrew James John Philip Bartholomew Matthew Thomas James Simon Judas (Jude) Judas- the traitor What can we learn? Jesus Lord over All He is not a secret healer. His healings were visual and on display so that the credit would go to God Obedience brings restoration Our important decision must be bathed in prayer God calls ordinary people these men had different personalities and lifestyles For more about Gloribites https://linktr.ee/Gloribites
