Adapt and Art

Today we are joined by writer, director, and reluctant actor Wyatt Scott. Wyatt speaks with us about their upcoming play "Machine Yourself." The play is based on a short story ("The Girl Who Was Plugged In" by James Tiptree Jr.) that moved Scott to tears the first time they read it. We cover what it means to adapt a story into a play, how you take a story that is both so much your own but also literally someone else's and do both artists justice, and how one tells a story as a writer, playwright, director, and actor. This episode covers identity (non-binary and otherwise), sci-fi, the struggle to create, and even the financial industry. You can catch "Machine Yourself" April 2 at 2:00 and 5:00 pm online at wyattscott.org and in person at the Barber Shop Theater in Nashville, TN. All tickets are donation-based and proceeds go to Appalachian OUTreach, a non-profit that helps LGBTQ+ youth in East Tennessee.
