It’s almost summer time which means swimming pools may be in your near future. So when I came across an article that claimed that urinating in a pool is bad for your heart, I had to do some digging. The actual study, well more like hypothesis, was pretty cool. Researchers are suggesting that a sweetener commonly found in diet sodas secreted through urine called acesulfame (ass-a-soul-fame)potassium, or Ace-K for short can interact with the chlorine in pools to create toxic compounds. The good news is that scientists have found a way to quantify how much urine are in pools so they can start to track the effects.
